It’s fair to say that winter can leave you feeling a little sluggish. You may be looking forward to entering spring, where those extra hours of sunshine can make you feel more energised. However, you don’t need to wait. There’s things you can do right now to avoid that winter slump.

Here are 5 things you can do to help you feel more refreshed during the last few weeks of winter.

Keep Your Routine Going

When you arrive and depart work in the dark, it can be tough to stay motivated. With reduced daylight hours, continuing with your usual routine and keeping track of time during the winter can be tough, but it’s important to push yourself. Make a commitment to keep your routine going and make those plans with friends or continue that gym class, because although it might be tough, you’ll feel much better for it.

Sit Near Windows

Speaking of the lack of light, if you’re inside an office all day during winter, then you will see very little natural light. Try to combat this by sitting near a window if you can. A lack of vitamin D has been linked to fatigue and high blood pressure, but by working near a natural light source, you may be able to overcome that sluggish winter feeling.

Get Moving

Exercise is one of the best ways to beat the winter blues. That doesn’t mean you have to join the gym or start training for a marathon but keeping active and mobile is important. This could mean taking the stairs, parking further away from the office to encourage you to walk, or simply making the effort to get up from your desk regularly.

Avoid the Sugary Treats

Winter can make you feel like you want to hibernate. But too many nights spent on the sofa indulging in sweet dreams can make you feel more tired – not to mention, add to your waistline. To help you feel more energised, avoid sugary treats and try to stick to a healthy diet. Make recipe cards to inspire you and plan easy-to-make meals to keep you motivated.

Early Spring Clean

It may be called a ‘spring clean’ but that doesn’t mean you have to wait until spring arrives. To feel more refreshed and make your home feel brighter, have a good clear out, clean up and inject a little spring into your interior. Making your home feel lighter can do wonders for your lifting your mood and help to pull you out of your winter mood.
