slimming world before after

It’s Bank Holiday weekend, yay! Except for me, who has to work today, boo! But all is not lost … it’s only for three hours, yay!

Some of you may have seen the blog post I wrote yesterday about losing weight and self sabotage and if you haven’t, click on the link and have a read, it’s quite interesting if I say so myself. After talking about it on my Facebook page with some other women who could relate to how I was feeling, it suddenly hit me why the subject was on my mind. Rather than make you wait until the end of the post, I will tell you that I lost 1lb this week – which is great of course, but the weight I am now is the exact weight I was about two years ago when I was cycling 11 miles a day and following Slimfast. I got down to this weight and, of course, once I stop cycling (I moved house) and started eating normally, I put all the weight on, and more, and ended up the size I did when I started Slimming World.

So, I think what I’m trying to say, is that being this weight makes me nervous. It’s a weight I never seem to be able to get under and I think in my head, the negative voices are starting to try and rear their ugly heads and tell me that I can’t do it.

So you know what I did? I went running. In fact, this was the first time I’ve been running in four years, since I did the Race for Life 5K in fact.

As you know, starting some form of exercise been on my mind, but I’m not ready to part with my hard earned cash yet, so the gym is on the back burner for now and I’ve been thinking about ways to keep fit for free. Now I’m not a natural runner, I never have been. I’m not built for it, I’ve never particularly liked it but I do like a challenge!

I made a little video of my walk/jog/run today and I hope it gives some of you a little motivation if you’re wondering whether you can do it or not. For the record, I probably ran a total of five minutes all in all, broken up into one minute segments, but it’s a start.

Also, having big boobs is a nightmare for any type of exercise and even wearing a decent Triumph sports bra did nothing to keep the girls in place, so I’d love to hear about your recommendations for sports bras for big girls that actually do what they’re supposed to do.

For the most part, meals have been the same as usual – banana pancakes, sushi, salmon salad and boiled eggs, but we did go to KFC this weekend. Don’t panic … I didn’t go crazy, I tried one of the rice boxes with the original piece of chicken breast on top (they don’t do the pulled chicken anymore) and so this came in at 10.5 syns I think? Ruddy lovely it was too, with a corn cobette (lol, cobette), on the side for speed.

I went to Carluccios with a friend for lunch on Friday and I ordered the spinach and ricotta ravioli in sage butter but thankfully didn’t like it, so I didn’t eat it, or replace it with anything. It’s my own fault for going off plan – should’ve stuck with a salad! I did order tiramisu for dessert but could only eat half of it as it just tasted so rich and sweet to me. My taste buds have definitely changed since I’ve cut down on sugar. WHO AM I?! Note the sponge finger on the side for speed.

As I said above, I’ve lost 1lb this week and I’m not going to be one of those people that moans that they’ve ‘only’ lost a pound, but I want to try and experiment and see if doing some exercise speeds up my weight loss. I literally do no exercise, apart from the occasional brief walk (around Tescos, such is my exciting life), and so this week I’m going to exercise every day and see if it has an effect. I see lots of people say that they maintain or even put weight on when they start exercising (because your body is holding on to water), but I’m going to see what it does to me.

Now I’ve got my bike fixed and I’ve gone out for a test run/jog, I’m going to make sure that I do something every day. We’re not talking a marathon (at least not yet, although it’s something my friend T has suggested we do in three years’ time when she turns 50), but I’m just going to make sure I get moving again. Hopefully, my weight loss should start to speed up.

I also took advantage of this new frame of mind and cut and strimmed both the front and back lawns (not a euphemism) – it took me about two hours and I’m absolutely knackered so I’m off for a well deserved bath. I forgot to take any photos this weekend so will take some tomorrow and add them, but with only 1lb difference, it’s not like I’ll look any different (unfortunately!)

I hope you all have a great week, and don’t forget you can follow me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Oh, before I forget, I am going to write up a Slimming World shopping list this week, hopefully some of the newer Slimming World followers might find this useful.

Over and out.

  1. Hi Kate
Just having a catch up on your posts.
Loved the ‘running/walking’ video – I’m constantly saying I must do it but put off very easily by excuses I make to myself.
My car has just died so it may just be the time for me to do something similar otherwise I will be housebound 🙁
    Thanks for the inspiration
    Lisa x

  2. Well done on the running. I’ve always hated running but started in January for much the same reasons – I needed to do something and it’s free – and now I’m really enjoying it. Would highly recommend the Run Mummy Run Facebook community, lots of beginner runners and slimming world followers. There was a post on there about sports bras the other day and the main recommendation was Shock Absorbers.
