If I had a list of things that I didn’t really need in my life, a bespoke hoody with my blog’s logo printed on it would probably be at the top of that list. It’s not something that I need or ever thought I needed and yet … I’m in love with it!
When a company called ‘Leavers Hoodies’ got in touch to see if the boys and I wanted an item of sportswear designed by them, my first thought was ‘what on earth would I put on it?’ and secondly, ‘this probably isn’t something a 44-year-old woman should even be contemplating.’ But I gave it some thought and spoke to the boys. Ben, at 20, declined graciously. And I totally get it because for him, he’s all about the brands. I think Dexter just probably replied “I’m in a game!” because no doubt he was on FIFA again. So that left me. I’m not a great one for self-promotion. I see it happen on social media a lot and if I’m honest, over self-promotion makes my teeth itch. Soooooo … hypothetically speaking, if I were going to put my blog logo on the hoody, it would have to be subtle.
The more I thought about it, the more I thought having something designed for Dexter would be a lovely surprise. I wondered whether to put his surname on the back, or his football number, but in the end I went for the name of his YouTube gaming channel – The Gaming Afro. It’s something he’s incredibly passionate about (bordering on obsessional) and I have, in fact, in the past I’ve bought a bespoke hoody from one of his favourite gamers. I just hoped that he would like it.
Anyway, the process was really simple. All I had to do was send them two images of what I wanted to have printed, have a look at their website and decide what piece of clothing I wanted (I went for the same light grey zipped hoody for both of us – size large), and two weeks’ later they arrived.
My hoody just has my logo onto my left boob. The colours and fonts are accurate, very legible even though it’s fairly small and you can definitely tell its my blog logo. I just went for red and black colours rather than the yellow background and I think it looks great.
For Dexter’s hoody, we went for the same smaller logo on the front but with a larger version across the back.
Don’t they look great?!
He came home from school on Friday afternoon with man flu and so I thought it would cheer him up if I showed him his surprise hoody. He’s not really used to me buying him treats because I just can’t afford them, so he was excited to see what I had for him. His reaction? He burst into tears!! I know right? I should point out it was because he was so delighted with it and already has plans to tell all of his friends to buy one too!
So bearing in mind this was something I never knew I wanted, it’s turned out pretty well. Not only am I in the running for Mum of the Year, the hoody has come in really handy because I’m currently living in my Dad’s icebox, aka the spare room. I wore it to Dexter’s football match today and the fit is perfect for someone who happens to be blessed up top.
Have a look at their site because they have so many other sportswear items you could have personalised. For something I didn’t even realise I wanted, this has had a fantastic outcome!
They look great. Dexters reaction is fab. Hope he is feeling better too.
He’s all better now thanks – I’m sure the hoody must have helped lol!
really fab idea, i live in a hoody when i’m at home and it’s just easy to wear when going to the shop etc 😀
Thinking about it more I think this would make a great birthday present, especially for the kids!
