The life of a freelancer (and single woman) dictates that I don’t get asked out very often. Woe is me etc. In fact, the highlight of my Christmas was going to an old man’s pub, The Three Mariners, on Christmas morning with my family. Hardly Nobu. Michelin starred restaurants are awfully over-rated (so I hear) and so my wardrobe these days reflects my social life – it’s a mixture of jeans, leggings, lycra for the occasional cycling jaunt and several pairs of Converse.
However, La Redoute got in touch recently to see if I’d like to try out some of their clothes. Now, I’ve never shopped with La Redoute before – I think I always held the impression that they didn’t stock plus size clothes, but I was proved very wrong in deed. When asked what I’d like, the temptation to buy another pair of jeans was overwhelming, however, I thought I’d take this opportunity to choose an outfit that was different from my usual wardrobe of casual clothes so that I would have at least one smart outfit in my wardrobe in case someone (ANYONE!) wanted to whisk me off my feet and take me for dinner.
I resisted the urge to buy black trousers and instead went for a plum coloured pair. The black lacy top looked equally as nice with the coloured trousers as it did with my jeans and the shoes set the outfit off nicely. I would like to point out though, that the shoes came up awfully big so maybe choose a pair half a size smaller. They are, however, the perfect heel height for me … ie. not skyscraper heels and comfortable to walk in!
I really like this style of lace because I think it looks expensive. There is so much lace around, particularly at Christmas, and I wanted something a little different … this was perfect. I bought it in a size 20 to accommodate the girls, and it fit me perfectly. You can’t see the detail on the back unfortunately, but it has a zip running from neckline to halfway down my back so were I to wear my hair up, it would look great from behind. The rest of the top is cotton, as opposed to stretchy jersey, but it’s really roomy.
Onto the handbag. I am in love with this handbag! It’s dark blue and black, with a gold chain and I haven’t stopped using it since it arrived. This, coming from a non-handbag user.
The quality of all the products is really high, no loose threads etc. and everything fit really well. I thought I’d list below the item details in case you fancy treating yourself:
Black lace blouse: £24 (black size 20)
Black court shoes: £27.50 (black size 7)
Trousers: (£13.75 (aubergine size 22)
Handbag: £17.10 (black)
La Redoute also have a sale on right now so you can get these items (and more) even cheaper!
Hope you like them and please let me know what you think!
