Dexter and I went ice skating at Westfield shopping centre, Stratford a couple of years ago. A lot has happened since then and when we were invited to go along again this year, I wondered just how different everything would be.
Well, apart from the ice rink now being situated directly outside the train station, which was a whole lot easier to find, the set-up was the same. And that’s a good thing. You have an allotted time that you can pre-book at the booking office outside the rink (you can skate for 45 minutes,) and everything runs smoothly, from boot hire to being escorted onto the ice.
However, one thing was missing (apart from my ex,) … and that was a Christmas atmosphere. Granted, we didn’t visit until the 6th January so that’s kinda on me, but the last time we went there, Christmas songs were playing, the sun was shining and I just remembered us all being excited about Christmas. I missed that this time round.
As far as ice rinks at Christmas go, I don’t have any others to compare Westfield’s to, and we’ve enjoyed ourselves both times. However, if I was to go again, I’d definitely go pre-Christmas and a few friends have said that there are other (better) ice rinks around at that time of year. Unfortunately, we couldn’t afford to go to Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland and ice is ice at the end of the day!
Dexter had a great time. I didn’t fall over (bonus,) it didn’t rain and they only played Gangnam Style once. I’m still the skating Don, managing at least a whole two spray stops, and Dexter got more and more confident as the session went on.
We’d definitely go next year.
We were given tickets free of charge.
