Don’t let the big, mad, red hair fool you. I’m a very understated kinda gal. *Cough* What? I am! During the day I only wear mascara and lip gloss … y’know, just to take the ‘half dead’ look from my pasty white face.

So when the opportunity came up to review Lancôme’s new mascara, Hypnôse, I was excited. Excited about mascara? Well, considering I normally only wear Collection 2000 mascara, hell yeah I’m excited! (Note to self: get out more.)

Having been a student for four years up until recently, I had to learn how to budget and one way was to buy budget brands of make-up. So I switched from the likes of Lancôme and Clarins to Rimmel and Collection 2000. I had brainwashed myself into believing that they’re just as good as the more expensive brands. Don’t get me wrong, they did the job and for less than a fiver, they were pretty good.

However, it’s only when you can compare your cheap mascara to an expensive brand that you truly realise that you’ve been fooling yourself all along. This is really, really annoying. Because now, I know that the black smudges under my eyes at the end of the day weren’t just because I was exhausted (although I was,) but because my cheap mascara had left dark circles there.

Also, it now means that I can’t go back. The Lancôme wand made my eyelashes all long, luscious and erm, separated. ‘Separated’ might not be what most people look for but then I’m not most people ☺

Brace yourselves!  This is me first thing in the morning – no make-up.

One Coat of Lancôme Hypnôse Mascara

One slightly negative point is that because the mixture (mixture? Liquid? Y’know, the black stuff inside – so technical me,) is so thick that when I applied it to my top set of lashes, some of the excess went onto my eyelid. Now this could quite possibly be a ‘me’ thing as it used to happen with my cheap mascara, but I guess when you spend more on a mascara you expect miracles!

Nobody noticed I was wearing new mascara, but then it’s not the type of thing someone would notice really. But I noticed the difference. My lashes stayed coated without flaking, looked longer and the best bit?  By the end of the day, I didn’t resemble one of the Living Dead. Bonus.

I’ve always been a fan of Lancôme so I’m glad this didn’t disappoint. I’ve been using it for three weeks now and I’m still impressed. Would I go back to my old brand? If I had to, yes … and it would do the job. But if you want more from your mascara, it’s worth investing.

It comes in ‘Black’ and ‘Brun’ and currently retails at £20.50 and is available from John Lewis stores and John Lewis online.

I was not paid for this review. As always, all views are my own. I was, however, given the mascara free of charge, to review.
