At 5ft 9”, I’m considered tall for a woman. It used to be something that upset me at school because all the boys were shorter but I remember feeling relief after one summer holiday because at aged 15, finally everyone shot past me and I didn’t feel so out of place.
Of course, as an adult, I feel completely differently and, as you know, I try my best to embrace everything about me – my size, my hair colour, my tendency to reply to dating messages with Abba lyrics … and my height.
I’ve found that more and more shops are recognising that there is no ‘normal’ when it comes to shoppers. Some (but not enough) brands do a ‘plus size’ range and some do ‘petite’, but interestingly, I haven’t found many that do a ‘tall’ range.
Cue Long Tall Sally … a retailer that is all about celebrating tall women. They providing clothing in sizes 8-24, and leg lengths from 34”-38”. Bigger shoe sizes and just all round more fabulousness!
I thought I’d pull together a few ideas for Christmas from the LTS website to show you what’s on offer for us taller girls and to hopefully give you some ideas of what to wear, or what to buy for your loved ones.
First up …
I would love to receive any (OR ALL) of these as a present! I’m a huge fan of leather gloves and still have a black pair from eight years ago and there’s a little sparkle in this snood, which is perfect for Christmas. And everyone loves PJs right? This pair are covered in cute sleeping foxes. Awwwww!
- Ruched Detail Leather Gloves: £40 (red/black)
- Sequin Snood: £18 (cranberry)
- Fox Print PJ Set: £45 (sizes XS-XL)
For me, Christmas day is about wearing something special but making sure I’m comfortable. I’ve put together a statement dress, which is bright but not ‘too’ bright and, most importantly, stretchy enough to remain comfy for the whole day. I’ve chosen boots, if you’re travelling to visit family, together with a wine coloured leather jacket, but also a pair of patent ballet pumps for later on in the day. I’ve completed the outfit with some 100 denier woollen tights.
- Plain woollen tights: £15 (black)
- Patent Ballerina Pumps: £40 (black)
- Double Zip Suede Ankle Boots: £110
- Soft Leather Jacket: £200 (wine/black)
- Floral Dress: £50
I’ve never had a Fair Isle jumper … so I think it’s about time I bought one! I’ve also had ‘lift & shape’ jeans before and they’re amazing – let’s face it, I need all the help I can get. I’m loving metallics right now and couldn’t resist these dark gold trainers but if the weather is really bad (which is quite possible), then I’ve added some gorgeous tan boots. I’ve topped the outfit off with a black park with leather trim, hat and scarf.
- FairIsle Jumper: £50
- Lift & Sculpt Skinny Jeans: £60
- Gold trainers: £30
- Lace-up Tan Leather Ankle Boots: £100
- Leather Look Trim Down Filled Jacket: £165
- Chunky Knit Hat: £10
- Chunky Knit Scarf: £18
I’ve chosen two main party outfits – a jumpsuit and a sparkly stretchy dress because, well, I like them both and couldn’t decide! I think sometimes a dress is more suited to an event than trousers so it depends on your mood! I love this coat too because it’s smart, elegant and long enough to cover any dress I might wear. It’s collarless so I think a faux fur detachable collar would look sexy. The shoes, although black, have been Christmas-ified (it’s a word) with a golden toecap and, of course, some beautiful black, leather gloves to finish off the outfit.
- Black Jumpsuit with Gold Details: £75
- Black Leather Ruched Gloves: £40
- Shimmer Tube Dress: £50
- Black/White Collarless Contrast Coat: £100
- Black/Gold Toecap Suede Shoes: £110
I had lots of fun having a look around the Long Tall Sally website and could have easily chosen plenty more outfits I would wear. But I hope you like the outfits and maybe it will give you a little inspiration (if you’re on the taller side – although the shoes are pretty gorgeous whatever your size).
What outfit shone for you?
