So early last week, I got a very unexpected invitation from Celebrity Cruises to watch Ed Sheeran at the O2 … and did I want to go?
Erm, YES PLEASE?!!!
I actually saw Ed Sheeran play live at Camp Bestival three years ago, but not on the main stage. As a Camp Bestival blogger, I was privy to the details of a secret gig he was going to do after his main set and so myself and the boys, along with 50 or so others, found ourselves in the Dingly Dell forest, sitting on tree stumps and watching Ed perform this private gig.
It was amazing. Ben, my eldest, was front row and although Dexter doesn’t remember much (he was in the playground nearby), Ben and I remember that gig vividly. In fact, Ed played some songs that hadn’t yet been released and asked us if we wouldn’t mind not uploading any footage we’d taken to YouTube. One of those songs was Give Me Love, and to hear it played live at the O2 last night, with thousands of fellow Ed fans singing the song back to him, was such a fantastic experience.
It was a bit of an epic trip driving to the O2 last night – the weather was treacherous and you’ve seen my car right? It was a hairy experience. But I got there in one piece, soaked. but dried off in Starbucks whilst I waited for another blogger and the PR. (A big hello to the lovely and gorgeous Victoria from Pommie Travels!)
Considering it’s just Ed and a guitar (and a loop), you’d be forgiven for thinking you were listening to a whole band – the energy he exudes is infectious (in a good way!) and even I got out of my seat towards the end of the seat – normally unheard of! But I just couldn’t help it. Honestly, if you like listening to Ed’s music already, you will LOVE him live.
He was incredible.
I felt very privileged to witness last night’s concert so thank you again Celebrity Cruises for the invite. I’ve also made a short video of my evening … I hope you enjoy it!
